Two people can be standing three feet apart with everything in common and never know it. The fastest way to fix that isn’t more mingling, it’s better context. That’s what custom questions are for.
As a host, you can add your own questions to the tap-in flow, “What are you building?”, “What are you here to find?”, “What’s your role?”, with short text, single choice, or multiple choice. The answers show up right on each attendee’s card.
Suddenly the room isn’t a sea of names; it’s a set of clear, scannable signals about who’s worth talking to and why.
“Small talk is a search problem. Custom questions give people the query.”
When you know someone is “raising a seed round” or “hiring designers,” the first sentence writes itself. Custom questions turn a cold introduction into a warm one before anyone opens their mouth.
A couple of well-chosen prompts beat a long form every time. Ask what will spark the right conversations, mark what’s required, and let the room do the rest.
Until next time,
